Dr. Brian Waterman served as the AANA MAST Visiting Professor at Walter Reed
In November 2024, Dr. Brian R. Waterman, an esteemed orthopaedic surgeon affiliated with Wake Forest University and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, was honored to serve as the AANA Military Advanced Surgical Training (MAST) Visiting Professor at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This appointment was part of the Arthroscopy Association of North America’s initiative to foster collaboration and professional development among military and civilian orthopaedic surgeons.
During the week-long engagement from November 18 to 22, Dr. Waterman actively participated in various educational and clinical activities. These included clinics, operating room sessions, surgical skills laboratories, journal clubs, and Grand Rounds. His involvement provided a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange, drawing from his extensive experience in both military and civilian medical settings.
The hosting team at Walter Reed, comprising Sports Medicine Chief Dr. Liang Zhou, Senior Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Daniel Song, and residents Drs. Hannah Prock Gibbs and Scott Feeley, expressed their appreciation for Dr. Waterman’s contributions. Dr. Gibbs noted, “Dr. Waterman was an absolute pleasure to host at Walter Reed. He has a true passion for teaching and learning and is a role model to all. We thank him for his time and expertise that he shared with us.” Dr. Feeley added, “The Military Advanced Surgical Treatment (MAST) program continues to be a phenomenal opportunity for the development of military Orthopaedic Surgeons. Staff and trainees of all levels benefited immensely from Dr. Waterman’s mentorship and military background.”
