Dr. Brian Waterman named as Secretary of AANA at the most recent AANA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC
Dr. Brian R. Waterman, a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon and professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, has been appointed Secretary of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) for the 2024–2025 term. This announcement was made during the AANA Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C., where the new slate of officers and board members was introduced. 
Dr. Waterman’s appointment as Secretary underscores his longstanding commitment to advancing the field of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. As Chief and Fellowship Director of Sports Medicine at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, he specializes in surgical and non-surgical treatments for shoulder, elbow, and knee conditions. His expertise encompasses cartilage restoration, joint preservation, and ligament reconstruction, among other areas. 
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Waterman has contributed extensively to orthopaedic research, authoring over 300 peer-reviewed publications and 20 book chapters. His research interests include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, arthroscopy, and patellofemoral disorders. He serves on the editorial boards of the Arthroscopy Journal and the American Journal of Orthopaedics, and holds memberships in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). 
Dr. Waterman’s military background further enriches his perspective. A 13-year veteran of the U.S. Army, he completed a combat deployment in Afghanistan and received multiple honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal. His experience in military medicine informs his approach to patient care and medical education. 
As Secretary of AANA, Dr. Waterman will play a pivotal role in guiding the organization’s initiatives, fostering collaboration among members, and promoting excellence in arthroscopic surgery. His leadership is expected to contribute significantly to AANA’s mission of advancing minimally invasive orthopaedic care through education, research, and innovation.
